|
A folk singer/song writer/finger picker/troubadour/some slide player/some banjo player from Vancouver. He started playing guitar in his late teens and has since refined his skill as well as his influences. He hit the road at age 22 and stayed on it for a few years, gathering experiences and knowledge everywhere he went. He learned many songs from the troubadour types and began writing his own. Pernell has had a variety of gigs both as a solo artist and with his back up band "The Hard Drinkers". The settings he's played in range from coffee houses and festivals throughout BC, to pubs and live music venues in Vancouver. Between being on the road playing music, he's on the road treeplanting and oil rigging. He's had an array of jobs ranging from harvesting cabbage in England to volunteer farming in Israel. He's played the streets of Greece and Italy and many an open mic in BC and Alberta Pernell has two albums, the latest one entitled "And Sometimes...", released in 2004, and is a collection of songs about people and the road. Both albums are available on this website. One can also check him out at CBC's New Music Canada website. Pernell's influences range from folksingers such as Bob Dylan and John Prine, to hard living Delta bluesmen such as Blind Blake and RL Burnside, to the hardcore country sounds of Steve Earle and Hank Williams Sr.
